Statin cholesterol medication may improve erection.

recent meta-analysis of 11 randomized trials in the Journal of Sexual Medicine in March 2014 from researchers in New Jersey noted that erectile function was improved in men taking statin medications for cholesterol.  Erectile function was measured by the IIEF questionnaire (International Index of Erectile Function), and erection was improved in men taking statin medications for cholesterol, and the effect was greater than changing lifestyle but approximately 1/3 to 1/2 of that noted from PDE5i medication (such as sildenafil or Viagra).  The extent of LDL reduction did not correspond to how much improvement was noted in IIEF.  Overall this study supports that statins may improve erectile function in men, which makes sense given that erectile function relies heavily on good bloodflow to the penis.  More studies in the future will help to validate these  findings.
